Before her death, she followed in both of her parents’ footsteps, becoming a devotee of the abolitionist movement and forming a close bond with John Brown, the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives said. ![]() Less noted are the contributions of Douglass’ first wife, Anna Murray Douglass, who aided him in escaping bondage and maintained their home, a stop on the Underground Railroad, and his youngest daughter, Annie Douglass, who died died of a brain hemorrhage when she was 10. The orator and abolitionist is widely quoted as saying, “I shall always feel more at home (in Rochester) than anywhere else in the country." The love, at least in the centuries following Douglass’ death is seemingly mutual across the city, there are murals, statues and other markers denoting Douglass and his contributions to the country and world. ![]() Frederick Douglass’ love for Rochester is well-documented. ![]()
